First of all you should know what the term overclocking means :- Overclocking is a process of making a computer component to run at higher clock rate than it is designated by the manufacturer.
Is every computer capable of getting overclocked?
Probably not, overclocking cannot be done on each and every computer, it depends on what type of that component is, which you want to overclock. Usually computers with original manufacturer equipments such as dell, HP or E-machine are much more difficult to overclock. Building a custom system is strongly recommended if you want to perform overclocking.

Why should i overclock my system?
Overclocking makes your system faster and increases its performance in many ways such as:-
- If default speed of a processor is 2.4 GHz, it might get increased to 2.5 or even 2.6 GHz by doing some overclocking.
- If default speed of memory (RAM) is 200 MHz, it might easily be pushed to 220MHz .
- Overclocking makes a system to do more work in a given period of time.
- Overclocking enhances the overall system performance.
Is overclocking safe?
Yes, but only if it is done correctly. Never try to overclock your system to much, i mean don't expect your system to run at two or three times more the speed than its default value. Always overclock your system in small steps and keep on checking the stability of your system after overclocking.
How to check the stability of my system after overclocking?

Dangers of overclocking:-
Well, if you haven't done overclocking in correct manner then you may face some of the following problems:-
- Overclocking increases the speed of your computer RAM, processor or whatever on which you have done overclocking, this also leads to the increase in the temperature of that component. So, if you don't have any sufficient ways of cooling down the temperature of that particular component then you may get it smoked.
- In every case of overclocking manufacturer warranty of that particular Equipment gets void.
- Too much overclocking may lead to an unstable system.
- It may lead to the malfunctioning of your processor.
- You may become an overclocking addict as well.
- It would shorten the lifespan of some equipments of your computer to some extent.
What determines the speed of the CPU?
The speed of the CPU is mainly determined by the multiplier and the FSB ( FSB is also known as the Memory BUS or System BUS and connects the CPU
with the main memory and is used to connect to other components within
the computer
).
CPU speed is determined by the following formula:
FSB x Multiplier = CPU Speed
For example, if you had a FSB setting of 133MHz and a 10x Multiplier, your CPU speed would be 1330MHz or 1.33GHz.
So, you can increase/decrease the CPU speed by increasing/decreasing the speed of FSB and/or the multiplier.
Should a CPU be overclocked from BIOS or the operating system?
CPU should be overclocked from the BIOS. It is the most easiest and safest way.
What if my CPU cannot be overclocked from the BIOS?
In most situations, the CPU can still be
Overclocked. There are several programs available that allow you to overclock
without having to enter the BIOS. Two of the most common are
CPUFSB and
CPUCool.
(These programs may not work on all motherboards)
My system has become unstable after overclocking, what should i do now?
If the system becomes unstable after overclocking, there are two options:
- Lower the FSB/Multiplier slightly till it becomes stable.
- Increase the Core Voltage (vCore) of the CPU.
- Increasing the vCore of a CPU may help
stabilize the system by providing the CPU with an extra boost of
current. (Warning:- increase in vCore will also result in increase in heat.)
- The best ways is to switch off your system then carefully remove the C MOS cell/battery, wait for a few seconds or a minute and again put it back in. This will reset all the values of the system to default.
How can i lower down the temperature after overclocking?
Expensive methods:-

5)Lowering the room temperature will also help
